Ever notice how plants will grow in the cracks of rocks but not always where you nurture them in your garden where you want them to grow? I loved the light and shadow on the Haleakala boulders at the summit of the crater. The blues are some of my favorite colors to work with because they represent creativity and communication. The strong will of this plant growing in less than desirable circumstances shows the power of determination. People who have been born into bleak circumstances, who have the determination and will to survive and thrive, and to learn and grow and rise above the shadows are some of the most powerful leaders in our world.
