As a water person, I LOVE being near, on, or in this beautiful ocean of ours. Fortunately, I’m also a morning person who belongs to a canoe club here on Maui. On the first full moon of the year a small group of us met at the beach in the darkness to launch our canoe at 5:00 am before the sunrise. We heard whales in the harbor but could not see them. Then, when the sun peaked over Haleakala the reflection on the water and the whales became visible and lit me up inside like nothing else I’ve experienced. This piece is influenced by this experience. The feeling of magic and mystery and connectedness we have to our special place here is in this piece.
