Also known as breadfruit, ‘ulu was brought to Maui by the ancient Polynesian voyagers. It can be prepared as a fruit or a vegetable and when it’s roasted it resembles baked bread. It is a beautiful tree and one that is very important to sustaining the Hawaiian people. It is an important source of wood, craft materials, and medicines.
