Description

Also known as breadfruit, ‘ulu was brought to Maui by the ancient Polynesian voyagers. It can be prepared as a fruit or a vegetable and when it’s roasted it resembles baked bread. It is a beautiful tree and one that is very important to sustaining the Hawaiian people. It is an important source of wood, craft materials, and medicines. The fruit is packed with nutrients and was one of several “super foods” in ancient times (along with taro and coconut) that enabled the Hawaiians to survive and colonize the Hawaiian Islands. If you have an ‘Ulu tree growing in your yard
