Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao is hosting “EMERGENCE – Honoring the past and looking towards the future of Maui.” Three of my pieces were accepted into this exhibition. This exhibit supports Maui Artists who have expressed their creativity in these difficult times, and a significant donation from this exhibit will go to sustain artists that saw their lives impacted by the recent Maui fires. The show runs from December 17th through February 2nd, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm.

“Uncovering the Layers” 48” x 24” encaustic diptych received an award by Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and will be placed in the Art in Public Places Program. Here is the description of this piece: “For months our island has been healing from the devastation caused by the August fires. Each person affected has a story to tell. Listening is the most powerful love language in the world. It helps build connections and trust, and we can gain insight from the person telling his/her story. It is an honor to stand before someone who is willing to trust me enough to share his story. As the stories unfold, so will the layers, and it will take time. There is much to these stories that the eye cannot see, but the heart will eventually uncover. Together with Aloha, it is my hope we will emerge from this time in our island’s history stronger than ever before.”
